A Day in Blacktown

Posted on June 6, 2008

I spent a morning yesterday in the biggest local Government area in Sydney and the second biggest in Australia. it was an inspiring morning where i met with arts workers and enjoyed a stunning exhibition by local artist Stan Florek at a cafe which served some very yummy falafels.

There’s lots of good work being done in Blacktown including an upcoming seminar and exhibition at the Blacktown arts centre about the social and political paradigms of art production in the Arab world . I’m looking forward to that ( not just because I’ll be working on it, but because it’s such an important conversation to have today).

But the most important thing about Blacktown is its cultural diversity. This is a place that has attracted people from all over the globe and where all sorts of dialogues can take place.

Spend a few hours there if you’re in Sydney sometime . you’ll enjoy it.
